THE "CINEFONDATION" DELIVERS ITS AWARDS Thirteen shorts by young directors were selected to Cannes Founded 3 years ago, the Cinefondation whose goal is to promote young directors from all over the world, presented its program of 13 short films, selected among 850 films coming from 152 different countries. The work of the lucky elected was appreciated by a jury consisting of the filmmakers Luc Dardenne (president), Francesca Comencini, Claire Denis and Abderrahmane Sissako, as well as the actress Mira Sorvino. You may as well say it clearly: this selection composed in its majority by school films contains three good films. (... ) RESPIRAR by the Portuguese Antonio Ferreira, is more serious in its form as well as in its purpose. It's a story about a laconic teenager, in trouble with his parents, dreaming about love and about being somewhere else. The two of them are presented to him in the shape of the young girl that he saves from getting drowned, during a scene remarkably filmed. The jealousy of mankind, the brutality of the world, will turn the idyllic into tragedy, on under water pictures, where the impossible teenage revolt surrounds him. (...)
